Volunteer Process

Ferndale School District (FSD) is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors, maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment for students, and providing a safe and supportive workplace for staff.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Ferndale School District (FSD). We are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors, maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment for students, and providing a safe workplace for staff.

Ferndale School District uses a volunteer and visitor management system called SafeVisitor Solutions. To volunteer in our district, all volunteers must complete the online volunteer application below.

The application consists of a basic information form and a background questionnaire. A Washington State Patrol background check will be conducted using the information provided in the application. There is no cost to volunteers for this service.

Once your application has been completed and approved, you will receive an email containing your electronic SafeVisitor ID badge. This badge will be used to scan in and out of district buildings when volunteering. For your first visit, please arrive a few minutes early so staff can take your photo at the front desk of the school where you will be volunteering. You will need to present a valid government-issued photo ID at that time.

Volunteer approval is valid for one year from the date of clearance.

If you do not have valid photo identification or have limited access to email or the internet, please let us know.

Schools cannot accomplish their missions or reach the needs of every child without the assistance of caring adults. Every volunteer in our school district makes a difference.

Opportunities are limitless to volunteer. We need your help! No task is too small to benefit our students. Ask your child’s teacher or principal how you can help in the school, on field trips and at home.

We are entrusted with caring for the future of our children, and we take this seriously. This is why we screen each volunteer.

Fingerprinting

Volunteers who work one-on-one with students (with permission from the building administrator) or are attending a field trip, must undergo a federal background check and fingerprinting.

*Please note: fingerprints are required for all volunteer coaches.

To schedule a fingerprinting appointment with the Ferndale School District, please call 360-383-9200. The cost for Ferndale School District volunteers is $70 paid via cash (exact) or check. Paying with credit/debit card there is an additional $3.29 fee.

Fingerprints are valid for 2 years from the day of clearance. In addition to fingerprints, all volunteers must complete Online Volunteer Application. Online Volunteer Application
