Jazzie Gonzales
Student School Board Member Jazzie Gonzales
Ferndale High School junior Jazzie Gonzales is one of two student members of the Ferndale School Board. She was appointed to the position in July 2021.
Gonzales said she hopes to be a voice for Ferndale’s students on the school board, and in particular provide a perspective of someone who isn’t white. She herself is Salvadorian, Filipino, Czech and Aboriginal Canadian.
“ No matter who you are, anything you identify as, I want to make sure you feel heard and safe at Ferndale,” Gonzales said.
After high school. Gonzales hopes to stay in the Puget Sound for college, either at Western Washington university or the University of Washington. Then, she plans to either become a psychiatrist or a nurse, she said. Gonzales said she may also opt to join the military.
Gonzales was born and raised in Bellingham, and began her Ferndale schooling in eighth grade at Horizon Middle School. She wrestles and plays soccer for the Ferndale Golden Eagles, is a member of the high school’s leadership class and also enjoys mountain biking in her spare time. Her favorite musical artist is rapper Mac Miller, and her favorite movie is the 2004 Pixar classic “The Incredibles.”
