Special Education Services

For students receiving special education services, in alignment with their IEP, all staff will work to implement accommodations and specially designed instruction.  In the fall of the 2020-2021 school year, in accordance with WCHD guidance we will provide instruction remotely.  The district is working on clear guidance to insure the health and safety of students, staff and community when determining when in-person services will be offered to students.  Special education staff will coordinate with classroom teachers and families to provide special education services.  Remote services may be provided via Zoom, via phone, or print materials for instruction.

  • Students will be able to access special services staff during their daily schedule without limiting participation in their general education classes.
  • Students receiving special services will be provided opportunities for real-time instruction from qualified special services staff during the school day and outside of scheduled instructional time, as schedules permit.
  • When possible, schedules will be created or adjusted to provide students receiving special services the opportunity to receive support in a cohort group from special services staff.

Schedules

In order to meet the needs of students receiving special services, students will have a wider range of times to access services. This will be achieved by allowing staff the option to deliver services both within scheduled class time and outside of the standard school day, as schedules permit.

Evaluations and IEPs

We are creating guidance documents to provide staff clear criteria along with timelines for completion of the work.

Evaluations: Ferndale will continue to work with families to complete evaluations using both remote and in-person assessments as the situation allows.  We will work to meet evaluation timelines while maintaining the health and safety of our students, staff and community.

IEP’s: Ferndale will continue to hold annual IEP meetings that are mutually agreed upon by the school and family.

Evaluation and IEP meeting will be held via phone or Zoom until it is safe to hold them in person.
