[Ferndale, Wash.] The Ferndale School District is pleased to announce new leadership at Central Elementary School and Cascadia Elementary School.

At Central Elementary, a familiar face, current Vista Middle School Assistant Principal Mr. Joel Francik, will be the new Central Elementary Building Principal. Francik has been an assistant principal at Vista Middle School for two years. Before coming to the Ferndale School District, Francik taught science in  the Pasco and Richland school districts. Francik is a graduate of Washington State University where he received his BA in Management Information Systems and Whitworth University where he received his Masters in Teaching. His Administrative Certification is from Heritage University.

When asked what he is most looking forward to at Central Elementary, Francik says, “I am looking forward to joining a great team at Central. I know that staff at that building are eager to jump in and join me as we continue building on the student-focused learning environment that Central is known for. I am excited to begin meeting the students and staff at Central as we begin this new journey.”

Dr. Linda Quinn talks about why she thinks Francik will be a great fit. “Joel is a force for positivity. My experience with Joel is that he is intentional about building relationships with students, staff and community. He will work hard and bring enthusiasm and creativity to his new role. I look forward to having Joel in this new role.”

There will also be new leadership at Cascadia Elementary for the 2019-2020 school year. The Ferndale School District is pleased to announce that Ms. Kelly Parsons, currently an assistant principal at Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary in the Marysville School District, will be the new Cascadia Elementary Building Principal. Parsons has been Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary Assistant Principal for two years. Before serving as assistant principal, Parsons taught in the Burlington-Edison School District and served as Early Childhood Education Behavior Specialist and Migrant Academic and Parent Services Coordinator for the Northwest Educational Service District. Parsons is a graduate of Western Washington University, where she received her Masters in Educational Administration and her Residency Administrator Certificate, and Central Washington University, where she received her BA in Elementary Education.

Parsons is enthusiastic about what she most looks forward to at Cascadia. “I am a leader who is focused on high levels of student engagement coupled with authentic connections between students and teachers. My career has been focused on instruction, shared leadership and collaborative practices in service to students, families and the larger community.”

Dr. Linda Quinn welcomes Parsons to Ferndale and says, “It has been a pleasure to get to know Kelly through the interview process. She comes to Ferndale with a reputation for strategic thinking and a diverse background in serving students. She will be a tremendous asset to our district and I am thrilled that she has agreed to join our team.”

The Ferndale School District previously announced that former Cascadia Elementary Principal Kellie Larrabee has accepted the position of Executive Director for Teaching & Learning for the Ferndale School District. Former Central Elementary Principal Georgia Dellinger has accepted a district-level position mentoring new principals and serving as a member of the planning team for the new Ferndale High School.
