[Ferndale, Wash.] The Ferndale School District confirms that cherished staff member and recent graduate Penny Jefferson has passed away as a result of a vehicle accident.

Penny was a member of Lummi Nation and graduate in the Ferndale High School class of 2016. Earlier this school year, Penny was hired to serve as one of our Native American Student Advisors. She was providing direct service for students at Ferndale High School and Skyline Elementary School. We will have extra support available at both Ferndale High School and Skyline Elementary school for students and staff.

Ferndale School District Superintendent Dr. Linda Quinn extends deepest sympathy to Penny’s family, “Penny was an extraordinary individual. She was bright. She was a leader. She graduated from Ferndale High School and we were fortunate to have her come back to us as a mentor to current students. We were truly blessed to have her as part of our community and we are deeply grieving this loss.”
