Ferndale School District Community -

The Ferndale School District Family is grieving the loss of teacher and friend Leslie Ward. Many know that Leslie fought Leukemia for years. Leslie’s family has shared that she passed away on Thursday, April 25th from the disease.

Those of you who knew Leslie know that she was dedicated to our District and our profession and especially to our youngest learners. She was passionate about giving them the best possible start to their educational careers. She was a cherished member of our preschool teaching team. She touched so many lives in such positive ways, and now so many of us are grieving her loss. I want to send my sincere condolences to Leslie’s partner Scott Morrow, who is a cherished teacher at Custer Elementary, and to her son, sister and brother-in-law, and the many others in her inner-circle.

Leslie began her career in Ferndale in para-educator roles at both Skyline and Custer before earning a teaching certificate. After earning her certificate, Leslie accepted a teaching position at Cascadia where she taught for several years before moving to the North Bell Learning Center to teach preschool.

Counseling will be available to staff and students in the buildings Leslie worked in and to anyone who requests additional support during this time.

Take care of each other.

With condolences,
