The Ferndale School District is pleased to announce that Mr. Obadiah DeWeber has been selected as the new principal for Skyline Elementary. DeWeber, who currently serves as principal of the Lummi Nation School, is set to begin at Skyline on July 1.
Ferndale School District Superintendent Dr. Linda Quinn welcomes DeWeber to the Ferndale School District and says, “We had a very strong candidate pool for the Skyline leadership role, and we conducted a rigorous interview protocol that included opportunities for our finalists to interact with the Skyline staff and community. I want to thank everyone who participated in this process. We feel fortunate that Mr. DeWeber has agreed to join our team and look forward to his leadership at Skyline.”
Skyline families and staff took an active part in the selection process. Dr. Quinn explains why that was so important.
“A principal steers the ship at each individual school. We knew that getting the right fit was important and we worked hard to make sure that our Skyline staff and families were a part of the selection process from the beginning. I am grateful for their time and energy. We worked together to find the right person for this role.”
A music teacher by training, DeWeber is passionate about providing a well-rounded educational experience for students.
“I loved music growing up,” said DeWeber. “My teachers in middle and high school inspired me to pursue a career in education. I am passionate about the Arts and about providing a well-rounded education for students. The team at Skyline has a phenomenal reputation and I look forward to joining them and learning together as we serve students and our community.”
DeWeber and wife Lily have three children and live in Whatcom County where they moved four years ago to be closer to family. Children Joshua and Hannah are students at Whatcom Community College while son Levi is a Junior at Nooksack Valley High School. The DeWeber family enjoys music, outdoor activities, sports and FFA. DeWeber, a semi-professional Bluegrass musician, will be an instructor at the Washington Old Time Fiddler’s Association Workshop this summer.
The Ferndale School District asks the Ferndale community to join in sending a warm welcome to Mr. Obadiah DeWeber!
