The Ferndale School District Maintenance Team is responding to a heating outage issue that is affecting the locker rooms, wrestling room, hallway, bathrooms and Gymnasium Foyer in the Ferndale High School Gymnasium.
Update (2/26/19): Since the time of the last update, heating capability has been restored to the impacted areas. However, maintenance work is still planned to fully repair the system's heat level control functionality. Maintenance staff have plans to fix the heating level control issue when necessary time and outdoor temperatures allow in the spring.
Update (2/5/19): The school district received and installed the ordered part meant to fix the problem that caused the original outage. The part was received January 30 and installed February 1. At that point, it was realized that a separate issue has arisen. Maintenance staff are working to diagnose that issue but, for now, the identified areas are without heat.
Update (1/9/19): The school district is working with and awaiting recommendation from the contractor who would be repairing or replacing the unit. Heat has not yet been restored, and students and staff are encouraged to continue to wear layers in the impacted locations. The safety and well being of our students and staff are our top priorities and we continue to work to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Original Post (1/4/19): The Ferndale School District Maintenance Team is responding to a heating outage issue that is affecting the locker rooms, wrestling room, hallway, bathrooms and Gymnasium Foyer in the Ferndale High School Gymnasium.
The Maintenance Team suspects the outage is related to a heat exchanger failure, but will not be able to verify the source of the issue for certain until next week. Due to the age and location of the equipment, staff do not yet know if it is possible to repair the existing heat exchanger or if replacement will be necessary.
Ferndale High School basketball game attendees will likely not be affected Friday evening, although there is no heat in the Gymnasium Foyer and bathrooms.
Students should plan to wear layers in the locker room, wrestling room, bathrooms, hallway and Gymnasium Foyer areas next week as temperatures will drop over the weekend.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as information becomes available.
