Ferndale Kiwanis has recognized Windward High School Student Madison Pheifer as its Student of the Month for June.
Madison is very active in making our community a better place to live. She participates in Windward High Community Service Days. One project that she participated in was making improvements to the school’s greenhouse, working in the garden and sprucing up the grounds of the high school campus.
An important issue that Madison sees in our community is the issue of hunger. She helps bring awareness to this issue through her participation in the We Are Active Club which she founded. She and other members of the club work hard to educate people about resources available to assist them. The club has also conducts food drives, with the food going to Ferndale Food Bank.
Madison has been on the honor roll several times and has been honored five times as Windward’s Student of the Month. She was recognized by her teachers for demonstrating Windward’s core values of learning, community, leadership and creativity. She was part of the school’s Mock Trial Team that participated in the state competition this past spring. Last year, she was vice president of the associated student body. She participated in Teen Court and Teen Outreach Program.
Madison says that Chris Perkins is the most influential person in her life. “He listened to my passions that I had about civil rights and he helped me to start, or better form, the group We Are Active. He has also been very supportive and helpful in my academic studies. He has challenged me to become a leader and that has helped me to grow a lot,” said Madison.
Following graduation, Madison plans to keep active in her community and also pursue higher education opportunities. Her goal is to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in either chemistry or business.
Congratulations, Madison!
Thank you to Ferndale Kiwanis members for their support of our students.
