Kiwanis Student of the Month November 2023: Conner Walcker

Athletics is a major part of Ferndale High School senior Conner Walcker’s life. He’s played on the Golden Eagles’ varsity football, basketball, and track teams. He’s been named the Whatcom Football Player of the Year by Whatcom Preps and received a Leaders In Sportsmanship award from the Northwest Conference.

The sportsmanship award is something Walcker said he’s particularly proud of.

“I know that I have been blessed with gifts and talents, and that many younger people look up to me and are watching how I act,” he said. “This award shows that my efforts have been recognized.”

Another memory Walcker treasures is his experience on the 12U Ferndale Baseball team, won the Cal Ripken World Series in North Carolina in 2015.

“We battled and persevered,” he said of the youth baseball tournament. “It was truly an experience I will never forget.”

Outside of sports, Walcker keeps himself busy through his church, working at Birch Bay Waterslides, and volunteering at the Ferndale Food Bank and Cascadia Elementary School.

“It has been great helping at recess, interacting with the students and assisting with activities,” he said.

After graduation, Walcker plans to play football for the Eastern Washington University Eagles in Cheney. He hopes to major in business, but also wants to continue working with kids, perhaps as a coach.

Walcker said his dad, Todd, has been a major influence on his life.

“He has always shown an interest in my activities and supported me throughout my life,” he said. “It was always equally important, as a coach, to encourage and build up his players to be young men of integrity.”
