Kiwanis Student of the Month May 2024: Maleah Singson

Ferndale High School senior Maleah Singson is very active in Golden Eagles athletics. She’s a captain for the track and field and cheerleading team, as well as a starting guard on the varsity basketball team.

“I loved being part of a team because you are able to meet so many people – not only in my own school, but in other schools,” Singson said. “Being part of a team has taught me many lessons that have shaped me into the person I am today!”

Singson is a star in the classroom, as a member of National Honors Society with a 3.93 grade point average. She also is involved in FHS leadership, having helped organize countless events at the school such as homecoming assemblies, pep rallies, the Fernchella end-of-school party, and the #FarewellOldMain event in December 2022.

Singson said she was particularly proud of helping with that last event, because it was an opportunity to honor and preserve the memories of the building that served generations of Ferndale students.

“Organizing the event allowed many alumni and community members to celebrate the history, reflect on the experiences shared within the school, and provide meaningful closure for community members,” she said. “It was a way to acknowledge the impact the school had on everyone and to ensure that its legacy would be remembered.”

Singson said the most influential person in her life is her grandpa.

“He has always been supportive and encouraging towards me,” she said.

After graduation, Singson plans to attend Bellingham Technical College to study dental hygiene.

“Being a hygienist, I would be helping others,” she said. “And being able to be in my community, building relationships with many community members, is important to me.”
