Kiwanis Student of the Month December 2023: Ayden Francik

FHS senior Ayden Francik has been involved in a multitude of Ferndale High School activities and groups, from athletics to student leadership to National Honors Society. But deciding to act in a musical (Les Misérables) for the first time her junior year was a brand-new experience. Performing in front of her peers is something she is particularly proud of, she said.

“I conquered my fear of public speaking and gained many friends,” she said. “In the end, it was a very fulfilling experience.”

Francik is currently the ASB Senior Class President at Ferndale High School and is also a captain long jumper for the Golden Eagles track team. Last season, she received the “Heart of the Eagle” leadership award.

“I love long jump because of the friends I have made and the techniques and skills I have gained over the past three years,” Francik said. “It challenges me.”

Francik is also a leader within the Ferndale community. During the flood of 2021, she spent many hours providing food, water, and clothing to those who had lost their homes. She has also participated in city cleanup events.

Francik said the most influential person in her life is her best friend and fellow FHS student, Birgit Milton. She described Milton as a steady source of encouragement and support.

“She has been there for all my ups and downs,” Francik said. “She has also taught me important life lessons on how to be more confident.”

After graduating in June, Francik plans to continue her family legacy by attending Washington State University – the alma mater of her parents (Central Elementary School principal Joel Francik and Custer Elementary School administrative assistant Becky Francik) and her grandparents. She was accepted to WSU’s honors college and received a Regents Scholar scholarship. She intends to study interior design, architecture, and construction management.

Francik said she’s interested in a career in interior design because it will allow her to be creative and fits with her detail-oriented mindset.

“Designing floor plans and layouts has always been fun, and seeing a room come together after you’ve chosen the artwork and furniture is very satisfying,” she said.
