Jessica Head is Kiwanis Student of the Month
Windward High School student, Jessica Head, is a busy young woman. As a senior at Windward, she is highly focused on academics and is very active in the school's many activities. She was recently recognized by Ferndale Kiwanis for her many accomplishments.
Since her freshman year, Jessica has worked hard in her classes. At the end of her junior year she had earned a 3.4 grade point average. She expects that to be even higher at the end of her senior year in June.
Jessica has been involved in Windward's ASB for the past two years and is currently its secretary. Besides preparing agendas and minutes, she and the leadership team reach out to local businesses to garner support the school. Windward Teacher Chris Perkins said, Jessica has experienced things in her life that have not been so positive. She keeps fighting and she is a natural leader.
In this year's Mock Trial Club, Jessica is playing the role of attorney which has required a lot of public speaking, writing a speech to present, developing questions for a direct and cross-examination of witness, and learning the different rules of evidence.
One of her favorite community services days is Read Across America. Jessica says, on this day we go to all the elementary schools in the district and read to younger students. We celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday which is March 2. Also, she was part of Windward's Navigation class who provided clothes and food for Amy's Place, a homeless shelter in Bellingham.
Outside of school, Jessica is employed as a housekeeper for vacation rentals on Lummi Island. She has learned the two big responsibilities from this work are 1) being incredibly thorough, and 2) being efficient with her time.
Following graduation from high school this spring, Jessica plans to attend a four-year university to major in psychology—with a focus on child development.
Congratulations, Jessica!
Thank you to Ferndale Kiwanis for supporting our students. We appreciate our partnership with you.
