Ferndale Kiwanis Club Student of the Month for April is Hailey Pelton, a 4.0 honor student, athlete, and leader from Ferndale High School and was honored at a Kiwanis Club luncheon.
Hailey has been class president since she was in the 8th grade and was team captain of her volleyball team during her junior and senior year. She has earned a full-ride scholarship to play volleyball at the University of Idaho! She plans on working toward a major in pre-vet science and minoring in business. After undergraduate school, she hopes to enter Veterinary School at Washington State University. She plans on accumulating 600 hours of volunteering with both small and large animal clinics.
Hailey has been in the Honor Society continuously since 10th grade, taking numerous AP classes and has volunteered as a coach for young players during the summer. She also volunteers with the Ferndale Food Bank. This spring she will be helping set up an anonymous positive letter program wherein students write positive anonymous letters to other individuals in the school.
Hailey identifies her mom, Adaela Pelton, as the most influential person in her life because her mom constantly provided her with opportunities to go as far as she wants in volleyball. Her mom coached her and arranged for her to get private coaching and be part of a club. Mom also helped Hailey through the college recruiting process and would help her when she, “stressed out about dealing with all of those coaches.”
Congratulations Hailey and good luck on your well-planned next steps!
Thank you to Ferndale Kiwanis for its continued support of our students. In addition to annual scholarships, each month Kiwanis recognizes one of our high school students.
