We believe that investing in Ferndale students and providing safe, efficient well-maintained school buildings for our children is important for our community and our children’s futures.
Ferndale Schools is comprised of two high schools, two middle schools and six elementary schools serving approximately 4,700 students in grades preschool through twelve. Also, the district has an administration center, communications center, and a maintenance and transportation center.
Our maintenance crew consists of a director, an administrative assistant, two journeymen, three grounds persons, one HVAC tech, one maintenance person and one custodian.

Update: January 25, 2018
The Whatcom County Health District School Health and Safety program is responsible for assuring compliance with Washington State Board of Health rules for School Health and Safety (WAC 246-366). Staff from the Health District are available to review construction and remodeling plans, provide consultation services, and investigate complaints that pertain to public health.
On January 24th, Ferndale Schools staff accompanied Whatcom Health Department staff on the Ferndale High School campus. The visit by the Health Department was prompted by a rat sighting on campus on January 19th.
Prior to the Health Department's visit, Ferndale School District had taken the following immediate steps, which have been confirmed by the Health Department.
- Set traps and bait stations (one School District employee is a licensed pest control specialist) in areas where rodent activity has been confirmed.
- Remove some overgrown shrubbery.
- Assess building exteriors and repair damage in some areas.
- Obtain bids from pest control contractors.
