Fundamental Course of Study (FCS)

The Fundamental Course of Study is Professional Development for All Paraeducators.

The Fundamental Course of Study (FCS) is part of a larger professional development program which began in 2019. 

Must be completed in the first two years. 

The first fourteen hours must be completed by 9/30/22 if hired on or before 9/1/21.

There are 12 courses (listed below)

 FCS courses can be taken online in Canvas. (7 hours must be in person) 

14 hours outside of your work day can be turned in for paid extra time. Pay sheets can be submitted to your building administrative assistant.

Paraeducator Standards of Practice

The Professional Educator Standards Board has published a document describing what an paraeducator should know and be able to do. These standards are the basis for the Fundamental Course of Study.

FCS Plan for 2021-2022
  • First year paraeducators must complete 14 hours prior to 9/30/22 (if hired on or before 9/1/21). Please complete FCS07, FCS08, FCS09,  and FCS10, 
  • Returning paraeducators must complete the FCS by the end of the school year. 
  • At least 7 hours of the FCS must be in person.
