What do our School District Nurses Do?

School nurses serve a pivotal role that bridges health care and education so students are safe, healthy, and ready to learn. 

Services provided by Ferndale School District Nurses include

  • Train, delegate, and supervise office staff at the building level to manage day-to-day injuries, illness, and medication needs

  • Planning and development of Individual Health Care Plans, 504 plans, and Emergency Care Plans for chronically ill and medically fragile children as well as for children with other health conditions and/or disabilities

  • Annual Vision and Hearing screening and referrals

  • Communicable disease management – we work closely with the Whatcom County Health Department and Washington State Department of Health

  • Develop policies, programs, and procedures for the provision of Health Services within the District

  • Student Advocate

  • Consultant for immunization compliance
