Financial Reporting

The school district’s budget is a financial plan that outlines how community priorities and educational goals will be supported in the coming year. Adopted annually by the Board of Directors and submitted to the state, the budget covers the school fiscal year from September 1 through August 31. It sets spending limits for each fund and helps guide responsible financial decision-making.

Long-term financial sustainability depends on clear policies for finance, operations, and risk management. By following these practices, the district ensures it can responsibly manage resources and continue serving students now and in the future. Community members are encouraged to review the budget materials and related School Board policies to better understand how the district plans for a strong and sustainable educational system.

Every July, school districts are required to adopt and submit an annual operating budget, known as the F-195, which serves as the primary tool for planning and managing district financial operations. The F-195 reflects the district’s educational priorities and community expectations in financial terms and includes the F-195F, a four-year budget projection that provides a long-term forecast of revenues and expenditures. Both the annual budget and the four-year projection are estimates, developed using the best information available at the time the budget is prepared, and help anticipate how changing financial conditions may affect district priorities, policies, and services.

State law requires the district to share information about Materials, Supplies, and Operating Costs (MSOC)—expenses other than staff salaries and benefits—for Basic Education, Alternative Learning Experience, Dropout Reengagement, and District-wide Support programs.

Citizen's Budget

While the F-195 presents the budget in the legally required format, it can be difficult to navigate. The Citizen’s Budget is designed to be more user-friendly, using clear summaries, visuals, and charts to make the information easier to understand. It presents the same budget information as the F-195, but in a simplified and more accessible format.

F-196 Annual Financial Statements

The F-196 is the district’s year-end financial report, prepared in a format required by the state. It summarizes actual revenues and expenditures for the fiscal year and provides a clear picture of how district resources were used in comparison to the adopted budget.  The previous year’s F-196 will be posted each spring at the conclusion of our Financial Statement Audit by the Washington State Auditor’s Office.

ASB Fund Balance Reports

Associated Student Body (ASB) funds are public funds raised by and for students to support optional extracurricular activities of a cultural, athletic, recreational, or social nature. Carryover balances from one year to the next generally reflect planned student activities that require fundraising over multiple years. These funds may not be used for curricular or graded student activities.
