Kiwanis Student of the Month May 2022: Davina Rodriguez
Davina Rodriguez has a passion for leading youth. The Ferndale High School senior has spent over 100 hours volunteering with younger kids, both in a Meridian church’s Sunday School program and at a local dance studio.
“I like working with kids; when I see them, I have a smile on my face,” said Davina, who was named the Kiwanis Student of the Month for May 2022. “Their energy really feeds me.”
Davina is not only a hip-hop and ballet dancer with seven years of experience, but also an intern at the dance studio, teaching kids in those two styles. The FHS senior hopes to continue teaching dance and volunteering at the Calvary Chapel Northwest church even after graduation this June.
“If I’m helping someone and I’m making an impact, that’s what drives me,” Davina said of volunteering.
After school, Davina hopes to become a radio technologist, administering x-rays and MRI scans. Davina plans to attend Bellingham Technical College after graduation and will study radiologic technology.
“I really like the healthcare field because you get to help others, meet new people every day,” Davina said.
Davina said the most influential person in her life is her Medical Terminology teacher at FHS, Tom Diimmel.
“When I got into his class, he helped me realize how serious the healthcare field is and how good of a job it can be,” Davina said. “He made me more grateful for healthcare workers.”
