Kiwanis Student of the Month May 2026: Harleen Malli

Congratulations to Harleen Malli who has been named as the Kiwanis Student of the Month this May!

Malli has been involved in ASB all four years and currently ASB executive president. She has been a mentor throughout her years at FHS. She is the senior school board student rep for FSD and the only student representative for the Ferndale Public Schools Foundation. She received a leadership award through the Washington State Schools Directors Association (WSSDA) and served on the board when the FSD school board was recognized as a top school board by WSSDA.

She earns a 4.0 GPA while also working part time at Pizza Twist in Bellingham for three years.

For the betterment of FHS she was involved in an outreach program to encourage student involvement in school as well as planning many events including the 8th grade leadership event, Winter Fest and the Fun in the Sun event.

She is proud of her mentorship with younger students and her service on the school board.

With a vision for her future she hopes to continue volunteering at her university and be civically engaged wherever she lives. She plans on studying chemical engineering at a university to be a research and process engineer.

One area she thinks is an important issue currently in the school community is the lack of engagement and participation from students as there are so many amazing opportunities available in Ferndale. With the cell phone policy in place she thinks the policy has done a great job to help reduce distractions at school for students.

Malli attributes her work ethic to her mom. “She has shown me the power of hard work and dedication in whatever you’re apart of,” Malli said. “I take that sentiment wherever I go and I always try my best so I can achieve all of my goals.”
