Q: What are you most looking forward to this season?

A: It's going to be a preview of that senior year that everybody wants to have.

Q: What’s your personal goal for this year?

A: Be productive. Obviously, I want to throw gas and hit tanks, but as long as I’m productive and doing things at the level that I feel I’m blessed to be capable to do, then I’m good.

Q: Why do you love baseball?

A: I love baseball because it’s way more than a game – it teaches you how to persevere through trials and tribulations. Not only that, but I love the community around it, having the guys behind your back. When you’re hitting, it’s you against the world; but when you’re on defense, it’s you and your boys going to war for each other.

Q: What baseball players do you model your game after?

A: Definitely the charismatic side of Ken Griffey Jr. I love John Olerud’s swing, and the productivity and hard work of anybody in the league.

BOYS' GOLF

Last Season:  The Golden Eagles sent five boys to the state golf tournament -- Gavin Anable, Travis Brockie III, Andrew Edwards, Baylor Larrabee, and Jack Krutsinger -- with Larrabee finishing 2nd overall. Larrabee was named the Northwest Conference MVP, and Brockie III was named to the all-conference second team.

Senior Kaelin Blakely (catcher)

Q: What are you most looking forward to this season?

A: Our team this year is super young, so I’m most excited about working with newer girls and helping build up the program. A lot of these girls, I coached them in middle school, so it’s crazy being on the same team as these girls that I coached when they were 7th and 8th graders. I’m excited to build bonds with these girls who are going to be taking over my spot when I’m gone.

Q: What’s your personal goal for this year?

A: Just making sure that I stay as focused as I was last year, not putting as much pressure on myself. I’m committed to college, so I don’t have to worry about that aspect anymore, so this year I want to make sure I have as much fun as I can. After college, that’s it, I’m done with softball, so I’m really taking in everything. I feel like that’s when my success comes – when I’m having fun.

Q: Why do you love softball?

A: Softball and baseball are such sports of perfection and precision. Your hits have to be timely, everything has to be matched up. I’m always up for a good challenge, so I get excited when we face really good pitchers. Anytime there’s a close play, getting that adrenaline rush – that’s what I love the most about softball. Also, the team aspect of it. I met my best friends playing softball.

Q: Are there any softball players that you look up to?

A: My coach for my club team, Riley Anderson, she’s a senior at Western Washington and played at Lynden. She’s somebody I look up to a bunch because she’s been through what I’ve gone through – she’s from a smaller area, trying to play college softball. When I was being recruited, she helped me through everything. She’s somebody that I really model myself after because she’s a great person and a great athlete. Also, he’s not a softball player, but my dad (Greg Blakely) grew up playing baseball, and he’s the reason I play softball. His number was 13, and I’ve been 13 almost my whole life. He inspires me to push myself and keep going.

A: I'm excited to get to the District meet. Last year, I got a sub-1 minute time at the 400 meter dash, and I'd love to get that time down even more.

Q: What is your personal goal for this year?

A: This is my last season, so I want to just have the most fun that I possibly can and not really care about how well I do and where I get. At the end of the day, I did this sport to have fun.

Q: Why do you love track?

A: My favorite thing about track is almost all of my really good friends do it, so it’s just extra time that I get to hang out with them. A lot of us do most of the same events, so it’s fun to build a community with them and work towards the same goals.

Q: Is there a runner who you look up to?

A: I don’t normally follow professional sports all that much, but really what kept me motivated was having friendly rivalries with my friends. That’s what pushes me to get personal best times.
