Ferndale School District Announces Ferndale Family Partnership

The Ferndale School District is excited to announce that beginning January 2021, we will be providing a service to our families who choose home-based learning for their children and who are seeking a partnership to support the education of their children. Our Ferndale Family Partnership is a collaboration between the Ferndale School District and families to provide academic support for those students whose families choose to engage in home-based learning.

For the academic year 2020-21, the Ferndale Family Partnership will be housed on the Central Elementary School campus. Our Executive Directors of Teaching and Learning, Kellie Larrabee and Faye Britt, will oversee the program, and the Ferndale Family Partnership Coordinator and teacher, Amy Neverdahl, will lead the instructional and family collaboration aspects of the program.

The Ferndale Family Partnership will provide classes and programs for students in grades K-8 and their families. During the 2020-21 academic year, students will meet remotely at least weekly with highly qualified teacher(s). The vision of the Ferndale Family Partnership in future years is to provide both remote and in-person instructional opportunities that meet the needs of students. Staff and families will work collaboratively to create a personalized learning plan for each child for both home-based and in-school learning.

Ferndale School District Superintendent Dr. Linda Quinn says, “As a district, we strive to provide programs that meet the varied needs of our constituents. When we realized we have a number of families whose elementary or middle-level students are not thriving in our current hybrid model or our full remote online model, we got to work to develop something new. I am thrilled to be able to offer this option mid-year.”

The Ferndale Family Partnership would be a good option, especially during this time of COVID-19, for families who do not want the volume of screen time that is typically involved in an online program and for those who have the flexibility to support their child in their learning process.

For families interested in determining whether enrollment in the Ferndale Family Partnership is the right choice for their children, we invite you to complete the Ferndale Family Partnership Inquiry Form or visit our website for more information.

Our staff will reach out to you in December to schedule time to discuss this new program, to determine whether it is an appropriate choice for your child, and to develop your student’s’ learning plan. Classes will begin in January 2021.
