Orange Shirt Day picture - every child matters

Orange shirt day, recognized on September 30th, is a day where our Canadian neighbors honor the Indigenous children who were removed from their families and homes and sent to residential schools in Canada. In recent years, Indigenous communities in the U.S. have joined their Canadian relatives in recognizing Orange shirt day. Many of our students, families, and staff have a personal connection between these borders. We want to acknowledge "Canada's National Day of Truth and Reconciliation"  as we stand in solidarity with our neighbors. The Ferndale School District is committed to learning more about the Indigenous history of this place and continues to build partnerships with the Lummi Nation to do so. Until then, to learn more about Orange Shirt Day, you can go to: WELCOME (orangeshirtday.org).
