Ferndale School District School Closure notice graphic with dark blue background and rectangle outline

Dear Ferndale School District Families,

Due to the ongoing severe weather and potential major flooding described in the latest update from the City of Ferndale, all Ferndale schools will be closed tomorrow (Friday, December 12). This decision is being made out of an abundance of caution to help ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families.

At the time of this message, the City of Ferndale has issued a Voluntary Evacuation Notice for several areas that may experience significant flooding beginning today, Thursday and continuing into Saturday. Because of the unpredictable nature of rising waters, and the possibility of limited access for emergency responders, we believe it is safest for everyone to stay off the roads as much as possible.

Key reminders from the City of Ferndale:

  • Flooding may impact areas south of Main Street, around the Ferndale Transit Station, the Ferndale Food Bank, the Pilot/McDonald’s complex, and neighborhoods near Washington Street and the BNSF railway.

  • Residents who choose to shelter in place should prepare to do so for at least 24 hours.

  • Temporary shelters are available for impacted households:

  • West of I-5: Ferndale Severe Weather Shelter (United Church of Ferndale, 2034 Washington St | 360-380-2200)

  • East of I-5: Good News Fellowship (1252 Axton Rd | Contact Luke LeViere at 360-510-5096)

Additionally, if you were impacted by the floods in 2021, take precautions.

As always, emergencies should be reported to 911, and general questions can be directed to Ferndale City Hall at (360) 384-4006. The city will continue to share updates on its website and Facebook page.

We will monitor conditions closely and will communicate updates regarding school operations as they become available. Please prioritize safety, check on neighbors who may need support, and avoid unnecessary travel.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership.
