Dr Dominguez photo making a heart shape

Dear Ferndale,

It is hard to believe we are already entering winter break. It feels like just yesterday that I held my Coffee & Connect and had the opportunity to meet many community faces. Now, here we are, just a couple of weeks away from the opening of our new high school and many of the new faces I met earlier have become neighbors and friends. I have had the most extraordinary fall visiting every school and department in our district as well as attending athletic events, concerts, and family engagement nights. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to meet with, and speak at, various community organizations including Kiwanis, Ferndale Chamber of Commerce, Ferndale City Council and more. Through those visits, I have been able to participate in skits, lessons, songs, PE class, meet with business owners, community leaders, and partners, and I have learned so much of what this wonderful community has to offer.

Every day I am impressed with the amazingly talented students and staff in our buildings. There is no shortage of excellence here.

As we enter the holiday season, I know for many this is a time of celebration, gathering, and joy, and for some of us it is a time of loss, grief, and despair. What I have learned over time is that both things can be true at the same time. My wish for each of you is a time of rejuvenation, re-centering yourself, reaching out to loved ones and doing things that bring you joy and fulfillment.

I want to thank this community for welcoming me, allowing me to be a part of the Ferndale School District and the greater Ferndale community. We are truly stronger together.

Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Kristi
