Joint Statement from Ferndale Police Department and Ferndale School District

October 29, 2024

Good afternoon Ferndale students, staff and families,

We would like to share that the individual responsible for the recent swatting calls to Ferndale High School has been identified and apprehended. This joint effort was made possible through the dedicated work of the Ferndale Police Department (FPD) and the collaboration of multiple law enforcement agencies. We are incredibly grateful for their swift response and continued efforts in resolving this issue.

On October 3, 2024, the Ferndale School District (FSD), Ferndale Police Department, and local authorities responded to an anonymous report of a potential bomb threat at Ferndale High School. Out of an abundance of caution, prompt action was taken immediately as students and staff were safely evacuated while law enforcement conducted a thorough investigation of the premises. Similar calls were made in the following weeks, in which FSD and FPD collaboratively assessed and responded appropriately.

These incidents, which have affected not only our district but also many schools, businesses and facilities across the country, have been disruptive. However, through collaborative efforts, we were able to navigate this challenge while keeping the safety of our students and staff as our top priority.

We want to extend our gratitude to all agencies involved in this investigation and to our school community for your ongoing support, patience, and trust. Your vigilance through the “See Something, Say Something” approach was instrumental in helping us maintain a secure environment during these events.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the Ferndale School District or the City of Ferndale. Thank you for standing with us to keep our schools safe.
