Important Flood Preparedness Information for Ferndale Families

Ferndale School District Families, 

The City of Ferndale is closely monitoring current weather forecasts and rising Nooksack River levels. While no emergency has been declared at this time, the city and local agencies are preparing in case flooding occurs. 

At this time, schools are operating normally. However, flooding and road closures could impact: 

  • Bus routes 

  • Pick-up and drop-off times 

  • Overall transportation timing 

If buses need to take alternate routes due to road closures, families may experience delays in pick-up and drop-off times. If significant route changes occur, we will communicate updates as soon as possible. 

Staff members should also be aware that road closures may require alternate routes to work. Please plan for additional travel time and check conditions before leaving home to help ensure timely arrival and safe travel. 

As part of our partnership with the City of Ferndale, we are sharing the following information to help keep your family informed and safe. 

Flood Safety Reminders 

Please remind your family of these important safety tips: 

  • Turn around, don’t drown. Never drive through flooded roads and always obey closure signs. 

  • Stay away from riverbanks, levees, and floodwaters. 

  • Watch for utility and public works crews and always yield to emergency vehicles. 

 

How Families Can Prepare 

If you live in a low-lying or previously flooded area, please consider taking steps now: 

  • Move vehicles, trailers, and equipment to higher ground. 

  • Open flood vents if your property has them. 

  • Check in on family members, neighbors, and others who may need support.
