Register for Boys' and Girls' Basketball
We invite all 7th and 8th grade students interested in playing basketball to register for the  middle school boy’s and girl’s basketball season in the Horizon Main Office as soon as you can!

Registration forms and Athletic Eligibility Packets can be picked up in the Horizon main office. The registration deadline is Friday October 23, 2015 to ensure students are  cleared to participate in the first practice on November 2, 2015.

Basketball season lasts until January 5, 2016.     If you have not obtained a physical in the last year, you will want to make an appointment with your family physician as soon as possible.  If you have any questions about your eligibility or registration process, please contact Kathy Stepro in the HMS main office at 383-9854 or at Kathy.Stepro@ferndalesd.org.

Thursday September 24th – Parent Technology Information Night at Horizon M.S. in the library from 6-7pm.  Do you have questions about your students’ laptop? Do you have questions about internet access, monitoring, what if it stops working, what is blocked and what is available to students…. come get your questions answered.

Thursday October 1st – Open House from 6-7:30 pm.  We will start promptly at 6:00 in your student’s Advisory class.  You will follow their schedule throughout the evening.  This is a great opportunity to meet the teachers and discover what your child will be learning this year.

Dear Horizon Families,

On behalf of the faculty and staff at Horizon, I am excited to welcome you and your students to the new school year. I hope that you had a restful, enjoyable, and fun-filled summer and that you are all ready to begin a great year of learning at Horizon. We’re all looking forward to seeing our returning students, welcoming new faces to our community, and hearing about everyone’s summer activities. We certainly can’t beat the weather of this summer! Our teachers are busy planning for our students’ return and looking forward to shaping the next chapter in their academic journey.

As you will notice, there is construction on Thornton Rd. As you visit school, and in the first few days of the year, please pay attention to the flaggers and use caution when entering or leaving campus. We’re hopeful that the work on the road will be over soon!

In support of helping our students become the best versions of themselves, we will continue our work with PBIS (positive behavior intervention supports) and advisory this year, as well as striving to make great gains in academic achievement.

I’m so excited to be the “new” principal at Horizon and Tim Keigley, who was formerly the principal at Windward High School, is equally as excited about beginning his new role as our assistant principal! We are both eager to share our learning with you, and joining you as we help to shape our next generation!

Enjoy the last few days of summer. We can’t wait for school to start! In the meantime, if we can be of any assistance, please don’t hesitate to call or email, and know that we’re looking forward to seeing all of you on September 2nd, ready to begin the best school year ever!
